Milestones

A couple of things Giovanni has learned in the last couple of weeks:  blowing bubbles, grabbing things and putting them in his mouth, and spontaneous smiling.  Oh, and he's finally found his hands- look at him check them out!

LaGrange over break

Over Jonathan's winter break, we spent a few days in LaGrange to celebrate Grandpa Cipolla's (Giovanni's Great-grandpa) 83rd birthday.  While there we got to see the fam- including Julia, who made us play "Don't break the ice" with her.  Unfortunately, her version is to break all the ice as quickly as possible and then make you set all the ice back up.  It was actually hilarious, because when she would knock the man down she would cheer saying "Man, man, man!" as if the goal was to knock the man down instead of the opposite.  We had a good time.

Super Bowl Sunday

Our friends Trista and Jeremy had a Super Bowl party yesterday- it was little Giovanni's first one. Of course, since he's only two months old, he held us up so we were half and hour late for the game and left just after halftime to make it home by his bedtime.  Ah, life with a baby- it changes things doesn't it.  Here's some pictures Trista took of the occasion (all the 3D glasses were for a halftime cartoon).

A few of my favorite things

Baby Giovanni loves the little cat on this activity center.  It's one of the few things that always makes him happy.  It rocks when you hit it and plays music.  He's also started playing a kind of cooing game with Jonathan.  Giovanni makes a noise and then Jonathan copies him.  It makes Giovanni laugh and try and make the noise again.  Sometimes they repeat over and over again and G just laughs.

Hanging out in the bouncer

When we wake up in the morning.  Giovanni likes to hang out in his bouncer while I have tea and breakfast.  It's one of the only times of day that he likes to sit along for longer than five minutes.  I think it's that he likes to see the sunshine through the kitchen doors.  Whatever it is, I'm grateful.  Cause I can always count on at least fifteen minutes of happy smiles.

Giovanni's first basketball game

We went to the Davis Girl's basketball game a couple of weeks ago.  Here is Giovanni with our friend Kim (she held the little guy while we were taking pictures).  Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures of Mrs. Fleming, who held Giovanni for most of the game!

Christmas in January

Amelia made Giovanni this fantastic stocking for Christmas...and being the slightly disturbed people we are, we decided to photograph him in it.

Winter Outfit

Here is little Giovanni in one of his winter outfits.  Sleeping again...I just wish he would sleep more at night!

Lazy Sundays

After his bath, I dress Giovanni and Jonathan put his bathrobe back on over his clothes.  He said, "It's Sunday, he doesn't have to go to work so he can wear his bathrobe all day if he wants to."  I guess we're already living vicariously through our child...

Here's a couple of shots from Christmas in LaGrange!

Here's Giovanni sleeping on dad's chest.  He really likes it...I can't seem to get him to sleep on me!  Maybe he's just daddy's boy.

Meeting Julia

Giovanni met his cousin Julia this week.  Here's an image of them checking each other out.  I would like to add that later Julia threw an orange and hit him in the head.  It was an accident, but I wonder if this is foreshadowing of their future relationship.

The sprinkler

I was trying to take a few pics of the kid, and he kept on making this pose like he was doing the sprinkler.  Then I gave him this cute toy Jonathan had a baby.  Giovanni didn't seem to know quite what to think of him.

Aunti Rose Comes to Visit

Aunt Rosemary came to hang out and help with the baby for the beginning of the week.  She took a couple of pictures of herself and lil Giovanni.  I have video also, but we'll see if I get around to posting it...  I actually have quite a few videos that I'll try to post soon!

Little Clown Clothes

Since Giovanni is such a small little guy, even his newborn-sized clothes swallow him up.  We were going out (to Target- our first trip away from home), and so we had to put something on him to keep him warm.  This adorable little newborn outfit ended up looking like a clown suit.  I had to take a picture!

A few newborn portraits

We tried to take a few detail photos, but Giovanni didn't like the flash.  We only got a few before we had to give up- maybe tomorrow in the natural light we'll try some more.  But really, isn't he adorable?

A picture with Daddy and one in his carseat

Okay, really- do tiny humans get any cuter?

He's Here!

Baby Giovanni arrived on Tuesday, December 2nd at 5:16 pm.  He came much to our surprise a week and a day early, but we're happy to see him!  He weighed 5 lbs and 15 oz., and he was 18.5 inches long.  Here are a couple pictures from the hospital- the first was in the delivery room right after they'd cleaned him up!

We had lots of fun trying different things with friend and photographer Shae Owens Holley.  Here was one of the shots.

Three weeks and counting

As we approach the birth of our little guy, we're trying to get things organized and ready.  People keep on asking me if I'm ready.  But really, I don't know how you could ever be ready for anything so life-changing as having your first child.  If by "are you ready" you really mean "do you have enough clothes so that your child won't freeze to death" than yes.  But if you mean absolutely anything else, I think I'll have to say no.

I'm very glad we have friends and family that love us and a gracious God, cause I'm sure that's the only way we'll ever make it through the first week.  None of this is to mean that we're not excited. We're excited- we're almost embarrassingly giddy.

Maternity picture...just 5 or so weeks before Giovanni's due date.  I can't believe how soon he's gonna be here!
